It's Just Like Home

Introduction

It is not a Proustian novel. It’s a long unsent letter, retrieved and despatched. An ode to travel. A journal of everyday events during our three month celebration trip to New Zealand and Australia.

It’s a narrative of milestones with 60th birthday, retirement, redemption from mortgage and cars and children all graduated into autonomy. A rare opportunity to revisit the past. There’s a life journey sprinkled on top.

It’s about what you package, what you take with you and your baggage. Recollections repossessed through the explanation. Strands woven together immersed in our senses. Expanding the range of places in which we feel at home.

Fresh experiences alert the radar newly attuned to pick up certain objects floating through consciousness. Not a static frame. A continuum beyond discrete episodes.

Bus pass inauguration heralds there’s a golden age of travelling to imagine. There’s a space to fill tramping around the world. There’s a legacy to discover and bequeath.

Enjoy your journey.
